Sailing at sunrise.
When Mahtomedi hobby photographer Greg Karp scouts a great spot for a photo, he’ll return in the early morning or late evening to capture the scene at its best. This image, taken at sunrise at the Matoska Park boat launch, stood out to Karp for its clean composition, the arrangement of clouds and the layering of numerous sailboats. “I used to own a sailboat and enjoyed sailing on White Bear Lake. When I was taking pictures on this particular morning, I thought to myself, ‘It would be a good day to go sailing.’” In retirement, Karp has pursued photography in earnest, with a focus on local flora and fauna.
