Need a push to get out of your house and enjoy our community? White Bear Lake Social meetup may be just what you’re looking for.

Would you like to participate in the many activities our area offers, but need a push to get out of your house and enjoy them? White Bear Lake Social meetup may be just what you’re looking for.

For those who are new to the idea, Meetup is a service allowing people to organize online groups that host events for people with similar interests. There are meetups for hikers, wine enthusiasts, poets and writers. Language-learners can join conversation circles in Spanish, Gaelic, Russian, Arabic and more. Do you love gaming, cat videos or crafts? There’s a meetup for you.

Hugo resident Connie Lefler heads up the White Bear Lake Social meetup. “The group is for those over 50 who enjoy various activities, but need a little push to do them,” says Lefler. Lefler joined the group about a year and a half ago, and became its organizer only five days later, when the original organizer stopped down.

Lefler’s goal is to help people enjoy all the area has to offer. “We try to do things mostly in White Bear Lake, Vadnais Heights and Shoreview. I got tired of having to drive all the time. People love White Bear Lake, and there’s so much to do right here,” says Lefler.

“We do happy hours, meals out, biking, kayaking, canoeing, cooking classes—all kinds of activities,” says Lefler.

The group has grown from about 50 members to over 250.

Lefler says most members of the group are single, but coupled people are welcome to join. The group welcomes new members and their ideas for activities. Dues are $8 a year.
