Celebrate the holidays in downtown White Bear Lake.

Whether holiday gift giving comes as a joy or stress this season, a collection of events in downtown White Bear Lake is bound to add some festive fun to the task.

The Holiday Open House returns from 5–8 p.m. November 16. Participating businesses will stay open later, offering sales and specials—with Santa Claus and carolers stopping into shops and lifting spirits. “The Holiday Open House just has a really festive and happy feel to it. Everybody who comes in is just in a really good mood,” says Cora Haugen, That Old Blue Door owner and Downtown White Bear Lake Main Street board member. “Last year, when the carolers came in and sang, I actually cried because it was kind of like a Hallmark movie.”

Every Saturday could and should be considered Small Business Saturday—but, on November 25, downtown White Bear Lake takes it up a notch! This Small Business Saturday event goes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (individual business times may vary). “Small Business Saturday is the most community supportive event of the year. People come out in droves to support small businesses,” Haugen says.

Then, on Saturday, December 9, Winterfest is back with carolers (dressed in period costumes as they visit each store), Santa Claus and horse-drawn trolley rides. “It’s just a good time to get out, get some deals [and] get involved in the general, joyful atmosphere,” Haugen says. And don’t miss the Elf Hunt from December 14 to 16 at participating businesses.
