Former White Bear Lake Area Schools superintendent Michael Lovett has had a penchant for photography since purchasing his first camera with money from his morning paper route at the age of 12. Today, he enjoys taking photos that tell a story and capture enduring beauty. This image, taken on a sunrise walk along Lake Avenue, is inspired by Claude Monet’s series of haystacks, which focuses on repetition in a changing atmosphere. “I, too, enjoy trying to capture subtle changes in light, shadow and color,” Lovett says. Often, he shares the images with their subjects or, “in the case of landscapes, through a series of printed cards that I share as gifts or make available for nonprofit fundraisers,” Lovett says.
