The town of White Bear was formed in 1858, as Minnesota became a state. The village of White Bear was incorporated out of the town in 1881, and within just a few years, both had formed a Board of Health.

It was February when Monica Russell was walking back to her car from the 2016 Art Shanties Project on the White Bear Lake Ramsey County Beach. From a distance, she looked back at the event that harbored artists’ talent in an unusual environment.

It was an early, mid-October morning when Ron Hawkins ventured out to Tamarack Nature Center. With the changing seasons, nature transforms Tamarack into a landscape different from the last. “It becomes a brand new place to visit,” Hawkins says.
On an early autumn morning, Ron Hawkins took his Canon PowerShot by the water at Tamarack Nature Center. The result was a series of shots that captured the beauty of fall—a collage of reds and umbers. While Hawkins goes to Tamarack regularly, the photo shoot made that one trip rewarding.
Every year, White Bear Lake Magazine accepts photography submissions from the community for the annual Lens on the Lake photo contest. The photos are submitted in five categories: Activities & Events; People & Families; Pets; Wildlife & Nature; and City Landmarks.
Community of Grace Lutheran Church in White Bear Lake may have undergone a recent name change, but its mission remains the same.
