It was an early, mid-October morning when Ron Hawkins ventured out to Tamarack Nature Center. With the changing seasons, nature transforms Tamarack into a landscape different from the last. “It becomes a brand new place to visit,” Hawkins says.
On an early autumn morning, Ron Hawkins took his Canon PowerShot by the water at Tamarack Nature Center. The result was a series of shots that captured the beauty of fall—a collage of reds and umbers. While Hawkins goes to Tamarack regularly, the photo shoot made that one trip rewarding.
Every year, White Bear Lake Magazine accepts photography submissions from the community for the annual Lens on the Lake photo contest. The photos are submitted in five categories: Activities & Events; People & Families; Pets; Wildlife & Nature; and City Landmarks.
Community of Grace Lutheran Church in White Bear Lake may have undergone a recent name change, but its mission remains the same.
Julie Orloske has been drawn to photography since right after high school. “I have always loved seeing the details of nature or capturing the images as they are unfolding,” Orloske says.

Capturing moments has always been important for Darcie Lewandowski, who has been involved with photography since she was young. “Photos are like the snapshots in time. Those memories we might not always remember later on,” Lewandowski says.
The White Bear community welcomed another senior living center in April, bringing new amenities and a variety of care standards for seniors looking to make a transition.
